Brook Racer ST
A review by davidwardle | December 14, 2007
A good shoe for sessions and longer races, quite a firm feel and quite a wide 'footprint' for a racer but they feel quick and you do feel like running fast in them. One word of warning , the heel tab is quite high and rigid, I found it irritated my achilles when I wore them for longer distances. Very hard wearing and would last a long long time if you were just wearing them for sessions and the odd race.

Very lightweight but also very cushioned, the outsole is just a firmer grade of EVA so they tend to wear down pretty quickly. They are good value at £45 and should last for plenty of races. Only issues I had were a slightly rigid heel tab and also the seems across the toes tended to rub and cause blisters unless I spread vaseline on the inside of the shoe. Otherwise great 10k shoe and maybe as far as a half. They fit small so go up a size.

I found these quite firm and unforgiving, I ended up just wearing them on grass and trails as they felt so hard. They were very hard wearinga nd the upper was comfortable enough but I felt they just needed to be softer. I think the Vapor and the Glycerin are much better.

I found these shoes very very soft, I found that they felt unresponsive as they felt as though I was wearing sponges on my feet. The upper was fine, comfortable and a good fit, no blisters and comfortable out of the box but I felt the sole was too soft and unresponsive, difficult to run fast in.

Excellent racer, good value, comfortable upper (better than the new T5), firm feel and fast, best value for money racer on the market.

Worst Pegasus yet I think. I got a pair as a prize at a race, hadn't run in them for 2/3 years and I found these terrible, they were rock hard and the heel counter and tab were very hard, irritated my achilles. I also thought they were very heavy, the pegasus used to be relatively light, this shoe keeps getting bulkier and heavier every year, if you are 12st + it might be ok but otherwise feels like a brick.

I bought a pair of these a year or two ago, the upper was comfortable and soft, I had to go up half a size. However I had problems with the sole, I kept developinga hot spot under the ball of my feet and heat build up every time I ran in them, had a very bad experience ina half marathon in them. They obviously suit some people but were not for me.
Not impressed

When they arrived I couldn't believe how clumpy they were, the shoe was almost twice as wide as my foot, the depth of the heel was 'massive'. I can't understand why if the new foam is so good the midsole has to be this thick. The upper was very nice apart from a dodgy heel tab which digs in to the achilles. One other thing i couldn't understand is why the trainer has less carbon rubber on the sole than the racer??? I personally don't think this shoe will last on the market, whe I ran on light trails in it it was downright dangerous and I always felt I could turn an ankle or trip and that was just on woodchip trails. Its dissapointig, loking at the upper you think ike are finally beginning to listen, simple, great fitting lightweighta nd then they attach it to a midsole which to be honest is ridiculous. I read the designers story about these shoes and he said he wanted it to feel like running on pillows, well I'm ot sure that soft soft is teh answer for running, you need a bit of a return. At £85 I don't feel this represents a good shoe.
brilliant

Excellent, best shoe I've worn for years, simple, light, hardwearing and brilliant on and off road, wish it was slightly narrower but otherwise almost perfect. And very affordable
Poor

I found these shoe almost unwearable, the heel tab protruded into my achilles so badly that before I even ran in them I could feel them rubbing. I want to like Saucony shoes but the common occuring theme with all of their shoes seems to be rock hard achilles tabs which curve inwards into the heel, it is just very poor design, nobdy needs that kind of support in that area, all you need is something to pull the shoe on, a loop of material would do the job, why do I always have to take a stanly blade to Saucony shoes heel tabs!
